What does the student union do?
The most common question of them all!
The student union represents students of the medical faculty and watches over their interests in questions that involve the university, county council, commune, Swedish national agency for higher education, CSN etc.
This surveillance is carried out in several ways. The student union has representatives in almost all councils, committees and boards within the university. The student union also has representatives in certain external groups that deal with questions concerning our students such as Umeå commune amongst others.
Students may turn to us with questions on problems concerning their studies for support and advice
Every year, the student union answers a number of remittances/referrals and presents our members opinions on various issues. Th student union also runs an own initiative program surveillance project which can involve questionnaires, inquiries on student rights or simply following up on that course evaluations are being carried out.
The members’ newspaper called Kår-Puss is issued out four times a year with exciting themes and articles. The editorial staff is made up students working voluntarily.
The student union also runs social activities mostly within our own house called ”Villan”.

Would you like to be involved and decide? The student union is a democratic organization and every section has yearly meetings where they elect their board members as well as members to the student union council.
The medical sciences student union council is the student unions highest deciding body made up of elected students. The council decides on what the student union should work with and think on important issues. The council also elects the student union board members. The student union board carries out the council’s decision and takes care of the ongoing activities of the student union. The student union board delegates student representatives to different committees, boards etc.
As a member you may send in motions to the council if you wish the council to take a standing on a specific issue or question.
