The student union finances its business mainly by income from its membership fees. The membership fee contains of both the central student union fee and the section fees. The amount of the fee is determined in democratic order by the Student Senate..

Routines for invoices and send outs
In
august every one that paid the membership fee during the spring
semester will get a new invoice for the autumn fee. If you don't get an
invoice you should come to the student office an register yourself.
Please observe that the student union crosscheck its member register
with the university’s student register. A student that doesn't pay the
student union fee is risking to be SUSPENDED from the studies!

The membership fee consists of many parts
The mandatory membership fee consists of different parts depending of which member category you belong and if you are a new student or not. The membership fee consists of:
1. Registration fee.

The registration fee is mandatory for all that hasn't been an a previous member in a student union at Umeå University. Students that can show that they have been members in one of the two other student unions at Umeå University (Umeå Student union and Umeå Student Union for Natural science and Engineering) doesn't have to pay the registration fee.
2. The student union fee
- This central student union fee pays for the Medical Sciences Student Unions central activity. This fee is mandatory for all.
3. Sections fee (DF, HVS, OF eller MF)
- This part of the fee goes to the section within your subject field. The amount of the fee depends on which section you belong, or in othter words what you subject study. The different sections are:

The Association of Graduate Students (Doktorandföreningen)
– consisting all the graduate students in the faculty.

The Health Sciences Association (Hälsovetenskapliga sektionen)
– consisting students in physical therapy, occupational therapy, nursing and biomedical analytics.

The Medical Association (Medicinska föreningen)
– consisting students in medicine, speech therapy, psycho therapy and biomedicine.

The Odontological Association (Odontologiska föreningen)
– consisting all students studying to be a dentist, dental hygienist and dental technicians
4. Delay fee
- The delay fee is mandatory after that the last pay date has expired on the paying in form that you get. You should always contact us if you have lost your paying in form, othervice you run the risk of getting a delay fee.
Right to reduced fee?
If you fulfill certain criteria’s you have the rights to a reduced membership fee. If you fulfill one of these criteria’s you have the right to a reduced, 50%, membership fee.

a) If you read a distance Course and don’t live in Umeå.
b) If you are enrolled in undergraduates studies less then 10 credits during one semester
c) If you participating in an education that is arranged mainly at an different town (outside umeå)
If you are entitled to a reduced fee according to alternative b you
must apply for reduction after the term has past. Last day of
application for autumn term is February 28. Last day of application for
spring term is September 30. Please contact the student union office
for more information.
How do I pay the membership fee?
The easiest way for a new student to pay the fee is at a cashier's office (for example a bank), then you immediately get a receipt that proves that you have paid the fee. The nearest place to pay the fee is at “Svensk kassaservice” which is situated at the ground floor at the hospital.
Payment can not be done at the student union office.
Always save the reciept!
As a member in the student union you will get a student card called the Mecenat-card that gives you a great number of discounts. The card will be delivered at the address you have registered at the student union within three weeks of your payment. Before you get your student card (The Mecenat-card) the receipt is the only valid evidence that you have paid the fee. Because of this, please save your receipt of payment.
Do I have to be a member in the student union?
Everyone that studies at a university must, according to Swedish law, be a member in an student union, in other words YES
Membership in different student unions?
If you are a member in a different student union at Umeå university you do not have to be a member in our student union but if you are a member at an different student union at an other university you still have to pay the membership fee to any of the student unions at Umeå University.
I'm a postgraduate student, do I have to pay?
As a post graduate student you have to follow the same rules as the other students, in other word you have to pay the membership fee.
I'm an exchange student, do I have to pay?
An incoming exchange student pays the same student union fee as our domestic students. A separate registration can, if requested, be hold the week before the regular registration. Information about this will be delivered to the concerned student<>
